The Atlantic Palace, opened in 1914, was designed by the Viennese architect Fritz Mahler as the most modern building in Karlovy Vary at the time. Its unique decoration involved the world-renowned Wiener Werkstätte workshops, whose geometric style endowed the building with exceptional elegance. To this day, the palace’s façade is adorned with statues of cherubs by Michael Powolny, which have become the symbol of the property.
The fate of both the building and its owner, Alois Klein, was turbulent—following his flight from the Nazis and the subsequent nationalization in 1945, the palace gradually fell into disrepair, culminating in the 1960s with the destruction of its unique onyx façade. A sensitive reconstruction was only undertaken after the property was returned to its original owners at the beginning of the new millennium. Due to its extraordinary value, the building is now listed as a cultural monument.
Today, the EA Hotel Atlantic Palace**** offers 21 stylish rooms with unique views of the colonnades and the Vřídlo (Sprudel) spring. The interiors blend the minimalist design of the Wiener Werkstätte with premium comfort. Guests can enjoy a panoramic restaurant on the top floor, a wellness center, and comprehensive spa treatments, making the hotel an ideal fusion of historical heritage and modern standards.
